EDITORIAL > A LOOK BACK UPON THE SUMMER IN ELECTRONIC MUSIC
“What were your favourite
memories of summer 2022
and are you looking forward
to an even better repeat
next year in 2023?”
THE POPULARISATION OF THE HOUSE
GENRE.
Among the heat in summer 2022 there was also a popu-
larisation in mainstream music of the house genre. Both
legends in the industry being Beyoncé and Drake released
house-centric albums this summer that saw wide stream
success. ‘Honestly, Nevermind’ and ‘Renaissance’ both
were heavily inspired by dance hits in the 1990s incorporat-
ing astonishing grooves and impactful melodies that were
heard in the tracks of the time, inviting some of electronicas
most influential producers such as Gordo, Rampa, Black
Coffee and Alex Lustig to be within the albums credits. They
aren’t the only artists that have made a return with many
pop singers hinting at making a return the likes of Doja Cat,
Nicki Minaj to name a few.
RESIDENCIES THAT TOOK OVER THE
WHITE ISLE.
Ibiza and summer come part in part, one simply cannot
exist without the other and 2022 saw a summer packed
with an incredible amount of shows to attend and DJ’s to
see. David Guetta dominated the summer on the island
with his world renowned F**K ME I’M FAMOUS residency as
well as pioneering the Future Rave genre with special B2B
sets with MORTEN. Ibizan legends the likes of Carl Cox, Black
Coffee and Eric Prydz continue to dominate again this year
with residencies at some of the islands most hottest and
illusive clubs, energy mirrored by one-off shows from the
likes of Swedish House Mafia. Newcomers also took the
party island by storm, notably Amelie Lens announcing her
first ever residency on the island at DC-10 and also Patrick
Topping taking his event series and record label Trick to the
legendary club as well.
A LOOK FURTHER AHEAD.
Summer 2022 in the world of electronic music may be over
however as we head into the fall, excitement only continues
for the genre only continues with various events on the
horizon such as the incredible Amsterdam Dance Event
which sees thousands of fans and artists gathering in the
Dutch city. What were your favourite memories of summer
2022 and are you looking forward to an even better repeat
next year in 2023?
