COVER INTERVIEW > A WORLD OF MAGIC ARGY
Hi ARGY, thanks for joining us this month! We’re into the full swing
of 2023 now, and this year has already been extremely busy for you.
What’s been your favourite part of these past three months so far?
Hello guys, pleasure is mine. My highlight has been the birth of my son,
just before the first day of the year! You cannot beat that! Our ‘Pantheon’
track release and the very warm welcome from the music community
was also very special.
In terms of 2023 releases, you’ve already released a huge remix for
Tiësto, mentioning that it had only been created a few days before its
official release. Can you tell us the story behind this?
Well, as with every high profile remix and major labels, the deadlines
are quite tight. They only had one date they could launch it and I had
to make it happen. Plus it was Tiësto, so I kinda had to make it happen!
I was lucky the vocal was very close to my aesthetic, so everything fell
into place quite quickly.
Before this remix though, you started off the year with ‘Pantheon,’
released on Afterlife which shares its name with the Roman temple.
Was this place and the godly definition of the word the direct inspira-
tion for the track? Tell us how it came to life.
For me the song titles are as important as the sound. I like to build stories
around releases and I visited Rome while we were working on the song
and I had a moment of inspiration in front of Pantheon. It’s not meant to
be religious, it has a more global and unifying message.
‘Pantheon’ also reached the No.1 spot on Beatport’s overall chart,
which is a monumental achievement to say the least. How important
is this achievement for not only yourself but also for the melodic
techno genre?
The great thing about this is that the song is not very mainstream and
doesn’t follow cliché forms, but still managed to top the charts. It’s a
bold record with a long break and that makes it even more satisfying
that a track like this was so well received.
You’re also an important part of the rosters on labels such as Afterlife
and UPPERGROUND. What is it that you love about these two labels,
releasing music with them and also playing at various curated events
of theirs around the world?
Afterlife / Tale of Us and ARTBAT created their own sound the past
decade that defined Melodic Techno. For me, as a genre outsider to
present my own vision of this sound on these platforms is very essential
to my recent success. Platforms like these certainly maximize your reach
and opportunities, so I am always thankful.
