EDITORIAL > STEVE AOKI ANNOUNCES NEW ALBUM ‘HIROQUEST’

became the basis of it.”

As with every Steve Aoki release, fans can expect a dynamic, multi-
genre body of work that encompasses many different styles and genres
to make everyone happy, and includes artists such as Global Dan, John
Martin, Taking Back Sunday, Kaaze, and many, many others. Although
‘HiROQUEST’ is filled to the brim with collaborations, there are also plenty
of solo Aoki tracks that will put his producing skills to the forefront, giving
us more epic mainstage moments to listen to as we see these tracks
teased over the festival season in later months to come.

“The music is a connecting tissue to this universe that I’m creating,”
he explains. “This album tells a fantastical story, but it’s also about
freedom from restraint. I went right back to my roots—that raw, rock
energy and that became the basis of it. From there, I began to explore
everything and it sprouted into so many different genres.”

More than just an album, though, ‘HiROQUEST’ will take listeners
through five different melodic chapters, with the album opening the
door to a new world that he has built from the ground up. Sharing
the same name with his new trading card game, it is a collectible
card game made in collaboration with MetaZoo Games, with its own
storyline set in the ‘Cryptid Nation’ where creatures named “Beast-
ies” lead by a character called Indrid Cold are causing havoc. It’s an
immersive and complex storyline, further proving Steve Aoki’s meticu-
lous attention to detail and wanting to build a story through his music.
