COVER INTERVIEW > BELOCCA: THE TECHNO BUDDHA

“We fear bad and strong emotions,

but they really are our best allies.
The human reaction is to push them

                                                   away, whilst the creative should
be to use them to your benefit and

                                                   create great work.”

Speaking of releases, all of your tracks tell personal stories not
only through the melodies but the names of the tracks too which
feels quite spiritual. Can you tell us more about this and how
you draw from personal experiences to fuel your music and your
                                                   creation process?
Yes indeed. EVERY track has a message or emotion I felt around the
time of creation. Having a sensitive soul means that feeling pain,
disappointments, joy, excitement, love or any other deep emotion
determines what kind of techno music I make. Many tunes were
fueled by derailed and hurtful relationships in love, life and family,
urging you to take a good look in the mirror and face your own
demons at the same time. These times also make you realise we are
all part of something much bigger together, which really humbles
you. Oddly enough I did not put my deeper emotions into my music,
until I made my first artist album “After Ten Years…” in 2016. This
album created closure and a new beginning in my personal life and
also marked the change from my acclaimed tech-house career
towards my new found love, techno.

Also, at the end of last year I experienced some profound and deep
personal emotions. They really blurred the lines between what
people wanted or expected from me, what kind of music was trend-
ing, or how it performed live. I just locked myself up in the studio
and did my music, as I always do. Writing and arranging melodies,
drums, baselines and sometimes adding vocals really comes easy
to me then somehow. Many artists make their best work when they
experience deep shit and I am no different, I guess. We fear bad
and strong emotions, but they really are our best allies. The human
reaction is to push them away, whilst the creative should be to use
them to your benefit and create great work. This battle is constant,
yet elementary in making something real.
