                                                                                                                                                                                the real deal and be as authentic as we can, both musically and
                                                                                                                                                                                also in how we portray ourselves on social media and behind
                                                                                                                                                                                the decks. We are ravers at heart who are lucky enough to be
                                                                                                                                                                                the conductors at events we play at. We think sometimes people
                                                                                                                                                                                don’t understand there’s plenty of psychology when you need
                                                                                                                                                                                to read a crowd. It’s not just playing tunes, and that’s where the
                                                                                                                                                                                number of followers doesn’t count.

                                                                                                                                                                                Over your 20-year career, you have succeeded in holding on to
                                                                                                                                                                                your signature sound. How do you manage to stay so faithful
                                                                                                                                                                                to your own sound without being carried away by waves of
                                                                                                                                                                                influences?

                                                                                                                                                                                Living in Mallorca is a blessing because it’s not really influenced
                                                                                                                                                                                by trends. Also, we tend to make what we feel we would like to
                                                                                                                                                                                play, that’s not an ego thing, it’s just because we believe we
                                                                                                                                                                                should be true to ourselves and try to be unique within a rather
                                                                                                                                                                                saturated industry.

                                                                                                                                                                                Your approach to music has always been through an ultra-
                                                                                                                                                                                modern prism. How do you define modern techno, is it very
                                                                                                                                                                                different from what you heard at the beginning of your career?
                                                                                                                                                                                Who are the most relevant players in the genre right now (apart
                                                                                                                                                                                from yourselves)?
                                                                                                                                                                                Well, music is good and bad like any art form. We are rather
                                                                                                                                                                                anti-genre in a weird way. We think that if it gets under your skin,
                                                                                                                                                                                that’s what matters. The lines of techno have been so blurred
                                                                                                                                                                                that we are in a moment where people think they’re listening to
                                                                                                                                                                                techno when hearing an EDM track. The relevant players now
                                                                                                                                                                                are the ones who are true to what they do, like Truncate, Mark
                                                                                                                                                                                Broom, and Ben Sims, who are all still very much on the same
                                                                                                                                                                                line being themselves without being influenced by trends. There
                                                                                                                                                                                are plenty of new names, of course, but it’s hard to know if they
                                                                                                                                                                                even produce their own records these days. We believe in this
                                                                                                                                                                                scene deeply, however, because of the pop investors getting
                                                                                                                                                                                    involved and buying mainstage sets and bringing in ghost
                                                                                                                                                                                          producers, it’s hard to know who’s actually real at
                                                                                                                                                                                                this moment. This is both tragic and exciting.
